Duo earn their first conference honors on Monday
MADISON, Wis. -- For the second-straight week, the Wisconsin women's hockey program had a pair of student-athletes earn WCHA Player of the Week honors as Maddi Wheeler was named the WCHA Forward of the Week while Caroline Harvey was named the WCHA Rookie of the Week, the league announced Monday.
Wheeler earns her first WCHA Forward of the Week accolade after posting seven points during the No. 5 Badgers' sweep of Lindenwood. The junior winger tied a career high with four points in UW's 6-0 win on Thursday night, potting two goals to go along with two assists. On Friday, Wheeler added a goal and an assist in UW's 10-0 triumph over Lindenwood to give UW its first sweep of the young season. Wheeler's seven points on the weekend were tied for the league lead with linemate Lacey Eden, last week's WCHA Forward of the Week, while her +6 plus/minus rating was also tied for the league lead.Â
A 2022 Olympian, Harvey set multiple school records on Friday thanks to her five-assist effort in the Badgers' 10-0 win against Lindenwood on Friday night. Her five assists are the most by a UW defender in a single game while she tied the school record for most points in a game by a blueliner. Harvey is one of only four players in school history to record five or more assists in a single game, joining the likes of Meghan Hunter, Meghan Duggan and Hilary Knight. A native of Salem, New Hampshire, Harvey also enjoyed a +6 plus/minus rating over the weekend which was the second-best mark among WCHA skaters.Â
The No. 5 Badgers wrap up their homestand on Friday and Saturday with a conference series against St. Thomas. Puck drop on Friday is set for 7 p.m. while the series finale on Saturday will begin at 6 p.m.Â
