Notes Wisconsin | Kansas State

MADISON, Wis. — The Wisconsin women's basketball team (1-0, 0-0 B1G) will take on Kansas State in the Brew City Battle on Friday, Nov. 11. Tip time is 3:30 p.m. from American Family Field. Watch Live on BTN or listen on WTSO.

1. REDEMPTION VERSUS MILWAUKEE: The Badgers traveled to the Klotsche Center for the second season in a row to compete against Milwaukee on Nov. 7, and this game had different results than last year. After losing to the Panthers by a final score of 79-67 in the 2021-22 season, the Badgers returned with vengeance and won 58-49. The Badgers continued their recent dominance in season openers, winning their sixth-straight season-opening game. UW has now won 13 of their last 14 dating back to the 2009-10 season.

2. CHANGE OF SCENERY: The Badgers are set to face K-State in the Brew City Battle, a historic event where both the women's and men's teams will play inside of American Family Field. This will be the first time ever the baseball field has been transformed into a basketball venue. The neutral-site match will mark the second time in five games that the Badgers traveled to Milwaukee, and they will look to go 2-0 in games played in the Cream City this season.

3. BACK AFTER REDSHIRT SEASON: Maty Wilke redshirted her freshman season at UW, but she is back on the court and looking to be a strong contributor to the team. The Beaver Dam, Wisconsin native tore the ACL in her right knee in the midst of her senior year of high school, and this certainly influenced her decision to sit out the 2021-22 season. Wilke was part of the starting lineup against Milwaukee, and she finished with a game high 12 points (5-11 FG) as well as five steals. The redshirt-freshman was also second on the team with six rebounds, behind Serah Williams' 10. She sat for just three minutes of the entire game, and looks to be an exciting player to watch this season for the Badgers.

4. FOUR DOUBLE-DIGIT SCORERS: Wisconsin showed that it does not need to rely on just one player to score for them Monday when they took on Milwaukee, as four players finished in double digits. These included Maty Wilke with 12 points, Brooke Schramek and Krystyna Ellew with 11 points apiece, and Serah Williams with 10 points. Avery LaBarbera was just one point shy of joining the double-digits club, but she accumulated double-digit rebounds with 10.  The offensive balance was a huge contributor to their victory, as Milwaukee had only one player on their roster, Angie Cera, end in double digits.

5. SCOUTING THE WILDCATS: Wisconsin and Kansas State will match up against one another for the second time in each program's history. Their last meeting came on Nov. 24, 2006 in Las Vegas, and the Badgers won by a final score of 56-53. K-State was picked to finish sixth in the Big 12 preseason poll this season, but they are consistently a strong force in the conference. Sophomore guard Serena Sundell was awarded to the All-Big 12 Preseason Poll, one of 11 players to be given the honor. A new addition to the team this season is Gabby Gregory, a senior transfer from Oklahoma. In her first game for the Wildcats, the 6-foot guard accrued 19 points and seven rebounds. 19 points was the most in a Kansas State debut since Nov. 13, 2015, and she will be someone the Badgers will have to pay attention to. K-State is one win away from 1,000 program victories, and Wisconsin will look to keep that record from being broken in Milwaukee.
