UW ends two-week bye with a series against Minnesota

MADISON, Wis. – The third-ranked Wisconsin women's hockey team is back on the ice at home this weekend for the first time since Oct. 21 to take on No. 1/2 Minnesota. Puck drop is set for 2 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday and both games are sold out.

Fans on Saturday can watch the game on TVW (Channel 3-2) in the Madison area and can view both games online through B1G+. The games will also air on the radio on 1070 AM as Brian Posick and Mark Greenhalgh have the call from LaBahn Arena.

Fans should note that parking this season will be $5 per game in Lots 29, 46 and 91. ADA parking is also available for $5 in Lots 44 and 87 and is subject to availability. All parking lots will open four hours prior to the weekend events. On Saturday, fans must leave their parking lots immediately following the women's hockey game to make way for men's hockey permit holders.

1. LAST TIME OUT: The Badgers split the series with Minnesota Duluth after bouncing back from an overtime loss, advancing to 7-1-0 in conference play. Freshman Caroline Harvey recorded two goals in the 4-3 win, with Lacey Eden and Nicole LaMantia potting one each. Goalie Jane Gervais made a career-high 35 saves, extending her winning streak to six games.

2. HARVEY CAPTURES MORE MONTHLY HONORS: Freshman Caroline Harvey added two more awards to her collection as the defender was named the WCHA and HCA National Rookie of the Month. The October WCHA award marks the second-straight month Harvey has been named the WCHA Rookie of the Month and the fourth time this season that she has received an award from the WCHA.  The Salem, New Hampshire, native led the Badgers in October with 13 points, which also led all WCHA rookies during the month. She posted six goals and seven assists and was a league-best +13 during the month.

3. AGAINST THE GOPHERS: UW currently trails the all-time series against Minnesota 45-55-14. In the last 10 matchups against the Gophers, the Badgers are 5-3-2, including three wins at home. Minnesota is currently 9-1-1 overall and 9-0-1 in the WCHA with a loss to St. Cloud State and a tie against Ohio State. This weekend's series is the first meeting between the two teams since Jan. 22, 2022.

4. UW CHALLENGING NO. 1 OPPONENTS: Wisconsin last played a No. 1 ranked Minnesota at home on Jan. 15-16, 2021, resulting in a sweep for the Badgers. Current Badgers Sophie Shirley, Britta Curl and Lacey Eden each scored in that series, with Eden tallying her first collegiate goal in the second game of the series. The Badgers later went on to beat another top-ranked opponent, Northeastern, for the National Championship title that season.

5. BADGERS HOST OUTDOOR SKATE: For the first time since 2020, the Wisconsin women's hockey team will be hosting an outdoor skating event from 6 - 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2023, at Vilas Park. The event will be held at the Vilas Park Ice Rink (1602 Vilas Park Dr), with skate rentals available for a fee from the warming shelter through Madison Parks. Read more about the event here.
