LEESBURG, Florida -- Thanks to a four-run first inning, the Wisconsin softball team ended its first weekend of competition with a 4-3 win over UConn on Sunday at the Northern Lights Southern Nights Tournament at the Sleepy Hollow Sports Complex.
UW (3-3) capitalized on a couple of UConn (2-3) miscues in the first inning. With the bases loaded,
Ally Miklesh scored on a passed ball before
Skylar Sirdashney launched a triple to plate
Jolie Fish and
Ellie Hubbard to give UW a 3-0 lead with no outs. Sirdashney later scored on a passed ball to give UW a 4-0 lead after one inning.
The Huskies scored a pair in the fourth and another in the fifth, but UW held on to earn its third win of the season.Â
Ava Justman earned the start, going three innings while
Maddie Schwartz picked up the win, pitching four innings with eight strikeouts.
Batting Cleanup
- Schwartz picked up her second win of the season in Florida and has pitched a team-leading 14 2/3 innings so far this year.Â
- Sirdashney now has three career triples with all three coming in Leesburg, Florida.Â

Kayla Konwent and Hubbard both led the UW offense with five hits during the weekend.
- The Badgers drew 29 walks during the six-game tournament.Â
