Badgers head to Georgia for second spring competition
MADISON, Wis. — Wisconsin golf is headed to Lake Oconee, Georgia to compete in the Reynolds Invitational at Great Waters Golf Course on Feb. 18-20.
Here are the five things to know before the team tees off:
1. Last Time Out: The Badgers competed in the Big Ten Match Play Jan. 31- Feb. 1. The team finished fourth at the competition after upsetting Nebraska 3-2-1 in the first round. Wisconsin then fell short to Purdue in the second round and lost to Ohio State in the third place match to claim fourth place. Emily Lauterbach won all three of her matches to lead the Badgers.
2. The Tournament: The course is a 6,031-yard par-72 designed by golf legend Jack Nicklaus. The course has been rebuilt recently and many holes are along the edge of Lake Oconee.Â
The Badgers competed in the Reynolds Invitational last season. The team finished seventh, headed up by Lauterbach who finished T23 after shooting 229 (+13). The tournament is hosted by Mercer University. Wisconsin will tee off hole No. 1 starting at 9 a.m. CST on Friday morning. Tee times for Saturday start at 9 a.m. and depend on the teams' first round finishes. The final round will be a shotgun starting at 9 a.m.
3. Folds of Honor: The Badgers are participating in the Folds of Honor program again this season. Players will take turns sporting a special golf bag at tournaments in honor of a veteran with ties to the campus community. Folds of Honor raises money to give scholarships to children and spouses of America's service members. In partnership with the Golf Coaches' Association of America and the Women's Golf Coaches Association, the team receives a golf bag in which the veteran's name, rank and branch are displayed. The players rotate in carrying the bag from tournament to tournament. Mackenzie Hahn will be carrying the bag at this tournament. Anyone is welcome to donate to Folds of Honor through Wisconsin's link.
4. The Field: Competing in the tournament is Chattanooga, Daytona State College, Delaware, East Carolina, East Tennessee State, Florida Atlantic, Georgia, Georgia Southern, Mercer, North Florida, Rutgers, South Dakota State, Tulane, UNC-Wilmington and Wisconsin. Playing for Wisconsin will be Chloe Chan, Gia Feliciano, Mackenzie Hahn, Vanessa Ho and Emily Lauterbach.
