MADISON, Wis.-- The Badger men's track and field team wrapped up its preparation for the Big Ten Conference Indoor Championships by hosting the St. Valentine Invitational on Friday in the Shell. The Badgers won three events at the meet. Select distance runners also competed at the Alex Wilson Invitational in Notre Dame, Indiana, on Saturday.
School record in the DMR at Notre Dame
The quartet of
Adam Spencer,
Colin Enz,
Abdullahi Hassan and
Jackson Sharp set a school record in the distance medley relay at the Alex Wilson Invitational. The Badgers finished sixth in the fastest NCAA relay ever in 9 minutes, 23.85 seconds. The time broke the previous UW record of 9:25.84 set by Sharp, Enz,
Hudson Kugel and Oliver Hoare at the same meet in 2020. This year's time ranks ninth nationally and third in the Big Ten this season.
Freshman Spencer started the relay off with the fastest 1200-meter leg ever by a Badger in 2:50.9. Enz followed with a 46.89 split in the 400 meters before Hassan went 1:49.1 in the 800 meters. Sharp anchored the relay with a 3:56.7 split in the 1600 meters.Â

In the only other event for UW,
Shuaib Aljabaly finished fifth in the mile, just one second off his personal best, crossing the line in 4:06.59.
Coil moves up in weight throw
Graduate transfer
Sam Coil continues his outstanding inaugural season at Wisconsin. Coil won the weight throw with a toss of 71 feet, 2 3/4 inches, a personal best by nearly three feet. His throw moved him up to third all-time at Wisconsin and third in the Big Ten Conference this season.

Cole Hooper also threw a personal best in the weight throw, finishing third at 65-10 1/4. Hooper now sits eighth all-time at Wisconsin. Three other Badgers finished in the top nine as
Jason Swarens finished fourth with a toss of 65-6 ¾,
Dan Ufearo took fifth with a throw of 63-3 ½ , and Nick Tomasoivic placed ninth with a personal best of 55-2 ¼.
The Badgers also swept the top-two places in the shot put.
Andrew Stone finished second with a throw of 64-6 ½ while Swarens finished third with a new personal best of 63-4 ¾. That throw moved him from eighth to third on the UW performance list.
Other event winners
Kavaugh FitzPatrick won the mile with a time of 4 minutes, 14.21 seconds, just three seconds off from his personal best, while
Nick Hruskoci placed third in 4:18.56

Matt Meinke competed unattached but won the 3,000 meters in 8:46.61, competing in his first track meet as a Badger.

Elliott Harris placed third in the 60-meter dash in 7.11, only .01 seconds off his personal best time.
Heptathlete
Quinn Lansill finished seventh in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.50.

In the pole vault, three Badgers placed among the top-seven finishers.
Canon Melstrand placed second with a clearance of 16-0,
Chandlar Ifft finished third at 15-6 ¼, and
Hunter Cook placed seventh, clearing 14-6 ¼.

Triple jumper Connor Barfknect hopped, skipped and jump to a personal best of 47-1 1/2 to finish second. Long jumper
Peyton Frankenreider finished fourth with a leap of 22-8 ½.

The Badgers travel to The Spire in Geneva, Ohio, for the Big Ten Indoor Championships next weekend. The meet run for two days from Friday-Saturday.
