COLUMBUS, Ohio — The third-ranked Wisconsin women's hockey team dropped a 5-1 game to No. 2 Ohio State on Friday at the OSU Ice Rink.
Makenna Webster put up a goal for Wisconsin (23-5-4, 18-5-3-2-0-2) in the first but it wasn't enough to out-do Ohio State's (23-6-0, 19-6-0) five goals.
Ohio State got off to a quick start, putting up three goals in the first period. Wisconsin was finally able to answer as Webster lit the lamp with under a minute left in the frame to cut Ohio State's lead to 3-1 heading into the second.
The second period was quiet until the final few minutes. Ohio State put up two goals in the last two minutes to increase its lead 5-1 over Wisconsin with one frame left to play.
The final period was also slow to start and the end was riddled with penalties for both teams. Neither team scored and the game ended 5-1 in Ohio State's favor.

Head Coach Mark Johnson
On the overall game:
"We played alright but we didn't play well enough to win. We made mistakes and gave them opportunities and they capitalized on them. Again, it's a learning opportunity for us. I thought Cami (Kronish) came in in the third period and looked comfortable and confident so that's a real positive to take away."
On the defense:
"We can play better. In the defensive zone you have to defend more aggressively, you can't give them time and space because they're creative enough and their defensemen are active enough to get opportunities if they have time."
