Josie Schaefer breaks own school record in shot put
MADISON, Wis. -- A school record by Josie Schaefer in the shot put highlighted the performances for the Wisconsin women's track and field team at the Badger St. Valentine Invitational on Friday in The Shell.
Teammate Chloe Lindeman placed third in the shot put with a season's best throw of 51-11 while redshirt freshman Danni Langseth finished seventh at 47-10 3/4 while competing unattached.
Lindeman had an outstanding day in the weight throw, winning the event with a personal best throw of 70-11 3/4. Her mark ranks second in the Big Ten, less than three inches off the conference leader, and improves her third-place ranking at UW.
Wisconsin athletes claimed four of the top-seven places in the weight throw. Olivia Roberts finished third at 66-0 1/2 while Langseth finished fourth at 62-5. Chikere Oduocha placed sixth at 59-2 and redshirt freshman Abby Peeler, competing unattached, finished seventh at 59-1 1/2, a nearly four-foot improvement from last weekend.
Sophomore Taylor Gilling won the 60-meter dash in 7.64 seconds while Cailyn Biegalski led a 1-2 finish in the 800 meters. Biegalski crossed the line in 2:14.60 while freshman Maggie Munson finished second in 2:17.75.
Peyton Sippy used a last-lap kick to win the mile in 4:51.16. Freshman Mya Bunke finished fourth in a personal best time of 5:03.79.
In the 60-meter hurdles, pentathlete Mackenzie Heyroth ran 8.72 in the preliminaries for a personal best. She finished second in the final, running 8.73.
In the 3,000 meters, sophomore Erin Hill finished sixth in 10:15.54.

Schaefer breaks own school record
Schaefer tied her own school record in the shot put, throwing 59 feet, 4 1/4 inches with her first throw of the meet. On her fifth throw, Schaefer upp the record to 59-6 1/4. The Badgers won four other events on Friday, including freshman Julia Moore in the pole vault. Alex Wilson Invitational
Emma Watcke competed in the 800 meters at the Alex Wilson Invitational in Notre Dame, Indiana, on Saturday. The redshirt freshman finished 10th in a personal best time of 2:10.74.Up Next
