Badgers finish fifth at the indoor championships
GENEVA, Ohio -- Behind a 1-2 finish in the weight throw, the Wisconsin women's track and field team finished fifth at the Big Ten Conference Indoor Championships on Saturday. The Badgers scored 68 points while Minnesota won the team title with 102 points.
"You have the Josies (Schaefer) of the worlds but if you step back and see the performances of Chloe (Lindeman), Big Ten champion, and a great performance by Olivia (Roberts)," said director of track and field and cross country Mick Byrne. "That something we talk to the team about, every single point matters. It was just an overall great team effort and I'm real proud of these kids."
Redshirt sophomore Olivia Roberts took the event lead on her second throw with a personal best toss of 69 feet, 4 3/4 inches. She improved her lead to 69-11 3/4 with her third throw before sophomore Chloe Lindeman took the lead with her fourth throw of 72-3 3/4, a personal best. That was enough for Lindeman to claim her first Big Ten individual title and the first in the weight throw for Wisconsin since 2016. Â
Senior Danielle Bellino advanced to her first Big Ten final and had an impressive final race. She improved her personal best by nearly two seconds, finishing sixth in 2:05.75.
In the 400 meters, senior Bianca Stubler placed fifth in 53.85. She was also a member of the .eighth-place 4x400-meter relay. Stubler teamed with Bellino, Ali Dorn and Cailyn Biegalski to cross in 3:42.05.

Â
"Day one sets up everything for day two," explained Byrne. "It's important that we get points on the board. The big thing on day one is getting people into the finals and Danielle Bellino did a great job getting into the 800 and finshing fifth today in a huge lifetime best, almost a two-second improvement. Bianca (Stubler) getting into the 400 final, we haven't had that in awhile."
