Badgers wrap up day one of weekend competition

Coil, Schaefer, Swarens, and Stone claim titles
RIPON, Wis. -- The Wisconsin women's and men's track and field team continued its indoor track season at the Red Hawk Invitational on Saturday.
The Badger throwers won all four events in which they were entered. Junior Andrew Stone started the Badgers off strong, winning the men's shot put with a personal best toss of 65 feet, 1/2 inches. His throw ranks second at Wisconsin, only seven inches off the UW indoor record of 65-7 1/2 set by Danny Block in 2013. Stone ranks second in the Big Ten Conference and sixth nationally this season.
Redshirt freshman Jason Swarens also had an outstanding day in the shot put. Swarens placed second, throwing a personal best of 59-5 3/4 inches, which ranks eighth at Wisconsin and 11th in the Big Ten this season.
Wisconsin swept the top-four places in the men's weight throw. Grad transfer Sam Coil won the event at 67-7 while Swarens finished second with a toss of 63-8 1/4, moving him into ninth on the Wisconsin performance list. Senior Dan Ufearo took third at 63-5, ranking him 10th on the Wisconsin performance list. Junior Cole Hooper completed the sweep in fourth place at 61-1 1/4. Swarens, Ufearo and Hooper all recorded personal bests.
Olympic trials qualifier Josie Schaefer won the women's shot put on Saturday with a season's best throw of 56-10, which moves her up to second in the Big Ten this season as well as fourth nationally.
Redshirt sophomore Chloe Lindeman won the women's weight throw, finishing with a personal best mark of 69-8, moving her up to second in the Big Ten this season. Lindeman also finished second in the shot at 48-2 3/4.
Olivia Roberts placed second in the women's throw at 66-4 1/4 while redshirt freshman Chikere Oduocha placed third with a personal best mark of 57-10 1/2.
