Badgers headed to Georgia for weekend tournament
MADISON, Wis. — The Badger are headed to Statesboro, Georgia to compete in the Schenkel Invitational March 18-20.
Here are five things to know before the teams tees it up:
1. Last Time Out: Wisconsin last competed a month ago at the Puerto Rico Classic. The team recorded the lowest 54-hole score in program history with a 25-under-par 839. The team also recorded a program low 36-hole score of 559 (-17). The team finished in 11th and all five Badgers finished even-par or better. Griffin Barela and Coalter Smith led UW, finishing T22 and each shooting an eight-under-par 208. Robbie Morway recorded new career-lows for 18- and 36-holes, while Jacob Beckman and Smith both recorded 54-hole career-lows.
2. The Tournament: The Schenkel Invitational is in its 42nd year. Hosted by Georgia Southern, the tournament hosts some of the best teams across the nation annually. Many familiar names including Brian Harman, Kevin Kisner, Andy North, Justin Thomas and Bubba Watson have competed in this tournament. This is Wisconsin's first time competing in the Schenkel Invitational. The Badgers will begin teeing off at 8:45 a.m. CT on Friday.
3. The Course: Forest Heights Country Club is located in Statesboro, Georgia. The course has played host to many tournaments, including the annual Southeastern Amateur Golf Tournament. For the tournament, the course is playing as a 7,123-yard par-72.
4. The Field: Competing in the tournament is Army, Campbell, College of Charleston, Cincinnati, Florida Gulf Coast, Furman, Georgia Southern, Iowa, Kentucky, Middle Tennessee State, Notre Dame, UAB, Virginia Tech, West Virginia and Wisconsin. Playing for Wisconsin is Daniel Aas, Griffin Barela, Cameron Huss, Robbie Morway and Coalter Smith. Jacob Beckman will be competing as an individual.
