Box Score MADISON, Wis. – The No. 50 Wisconsin women's tennis team put up a strong fight against No. 26 Michigan, but ultimately fell in a 4-3 final at Nielsen Tennis Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Alina Mukhortova and Xinyu Cai won the first doubles court for the Badgers (11-7, 3-2 Big Ten), defeating No. 74 doubles pair Jaedan Brown and Andrea Cerdan, 6-4. Ava Markham and Ariel Johnson clinched the doubles point for Wisconsin, with a 7-6 (6) win over Julia Fliegner and Gala Mesochoritou on Court 2.
Mukhortova earned the first singles victory for UW, defeating No. 102 Nicole Hammond, 7-5, 6-4 to put the Badgers at 2-0.
Markham claimed an upset in singles over No. 11 Kari Miller, winning 6-4, 5-7, 6-4.
