Wisconsin heads to Nebraska for third Big Ten match of the season
MADISON, Wis. — The Wisconsin men's tennis team travels to Lincoln, Neb., this weekend to take on the Huskers in its third Big Ten match of the season. The teams face off at 11 a.m. Saturday.
1. In Case You Missed It: The Badgers split last weekend's matches, going 1-1 with a win at Michigan State and a loss at No. 5 Michigan. Wisconsin was not able to come up with any points against the Wolverines but excelled at both singles and doubles play versus the Spartans. The combination of Robin Parts and Sebastian Vile along with the Badger duo of Lenard Soha and Mihailo Popovic came away with wins to claim the doubles point. Soha, Parts, Vile and Tim Dzhurinskiy each won their respective singles matches to claim a 5-2 win.
2. Know the Opponent: Nebraska is 5-12 on the season with its most recent win coming at the expense of Michigan State. The Huskers were able to clinch the match with a 4-3 win and hand the Spartans their second Big Ten loss of the season, two days after Wisconsin downed MSU. Nebraska has one ranked win on its resume, beating No. 48 UCF, 4-3, in mid-March. The Huskers have had no shortage of good competition, with seven of their 12 losses happening against ranked teams, including No. 2 Baylor and No. 5 Michigan.
3. Big Ten Standings: After one weekend of Big Ten play, the Badgers stand in a tie for third overall in the Big Ten. Unbeaten Michigan (2-0) and Ohio State (1-0) sit atop the standings, with Northwestern, Nebraska and the Badgers just behind at 1-1 in league play.
