SARASOTA, Fla. -- The Badgers returned to Nathan Benderson Park in Sarasota for the first time since the 2021 NCAA regatta to compete in the second annual Big Ten Invitational. 

Wisconsin is running the event this weekend, putting on the largest regatta in the country short of NCAAs. In the Floridian heat, the Badgers put up a fight throughout the day, challenging themselves to get better with each and every stroke.

"We had a good learning day today, across the board," head coach Bebe Bryans said. "The varsity boats struggled in the morning a bit to find a good racing rhythm. [Without that], finding good speed is tough. All boats did a much better job in the afternoon. While there is still a long way to go, I think we are a little bit better than we were last year at this time."

Novice boats pushed the limits, leading the Badger pack all day long. The second novice eight walked away with a close afternoon win, beating Ohio State, Minnesota and Iowa.

"The freshman races were awesome and the second novice eight was great, "Bryans said. "They led the race from the first stroke and held off some fast charging crews for the win. Overall, a challenging but fruitful day and we're looking forward to the racing tomorrow."

The Badgers will compete tomorrow morning to round off another weekend of important spring racing.
