Crushing Chris: Sophomore leads Badgers to 6-2 win

Sophomore hits pair of jacks to lead UW to series win over Hoosiers

MADISON, Wis. — A pair of home runs from catcher Christaana Angelopulos propelled the Wisconsin softball team to a 6-2 win over Indiana on Sunday at Goodman Diamond.

Indiana (19-10, 2-4 Big Ten) took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third, but the Badgers (20-8, 5-1) were able to tie the game in the bottom of the frame. Angelopulos hit her first home run of the season, sending the ball over the left centerfield wall to knot the game at 1-1.

UW broke the tie in the bottom of the sixth as Angelopulos smacked a three-run deep shot to center field. Two batters later, Kayla Konwent put Wisconsin up 6-1 with a two-run homer.

The senior first baseman flipped the bat and circled around the bases to a hurdle with her teammates.

Wisconsin gave up a run in the top of the seventh, but the late Hoosier rally could not be stopped as UW improved to 5-1 in Big Ten play.

Badger ace Maddie Schwartz pitched a complete game for the eighth time this season and struck out two batters.

Straight from the Diamond
Head Coach Yvette Healy
On Goodman Diamond's atmosphere:

"The place was packed. It was such a cool atmosphere. A lot of little girls didn't get to play softball this weekend because it snowed in Wisconsin so we wanted to put on a show. I'm really proud of this group."

On Christaana Angelopulos:
"She was a spark. She dug deep. She took a big hit earlier in the game and she stayed in it. To put the ball over the fence twice today, that was pretty cool."

Sophomore Christaana Angelopulos
On the team's support:

"It really meant everything. I just really appreciate my teammates sticking with me, my coaches sticking with me –I got them and they got me. It's just super cool to have that spark and going into the rest of the game it was awesome.

On Goodman Diamond's atmosphere:
"It was awesome. Our fans brought the energy. It was super fun to play behind. I'm super pumped to get back to Goodman in two weeks."
