UW falls 10-2 on Friday
MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin softball team dropped its series opener against No. 22 Michigan, 10-2, on Friday night at Goodman Diamond.
After giving up runs in the top of the first and second innings, the Badgers were able to tie the game up at 2-2 in the bottom of the second. After Ellie Hubbard and Ally Miklesh drew walks to open the inning, Morgan Kummer launched a double into left center field to score both runners to even things up.
However, the Wolverines scored three in the top of the third thanks to a three-run home run and later added runs in three of the last four innings. Michigan launched another three-run home run in the seventh to put the game out of reach.
Wisconsin threatened multiple times through the game, finding bases loaded on two different occasions, unable to capitalize.
Four Badgers pitchers saw action against the Wolverines with Maddie Schwartz starting the series opener going 5.1 innings adding one strikeout, then handing the ball off to Tessa Magnanimo, Abby Herbst and Gabi Salo who combined for 1.2 innings.
Up Next: The Badgers continue their home stand with a 1 p.m. matchup with Michigan on Saturday. UW and Michigan will wrap up their series on Sunday at noon and the Badgers will celebrate their senior class prior to first pitch.
