Konwent ties school home run record in setback
MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin softball team dropped a 6-1 game on Saturday to No. 22 Michigan at Goodman Diamond.
Kayla Konwent hit her 31st career home run to tie the Chloe Miller's school record, but the Badgers were not able to keep up with the Michigan offense and more specifically Michigan's pitching.
After the Wolverines added one run in the first inning, Maddie Schwartz was able to keep the Michigan offense at bay, getting out of a bases loaded jam and pitching though three scoreless innings.
Konwent's home run came in the sixth inning, breaking up the Michigan no hitter followed by another hit from Peyton Bannon.
Schwartz went 6.2 innings allowing four earned runs before Tessa Magnanimo entered to get the last out of the game.
Straight from the Diamond:
Head Coach Yvette Healy
"I thought Maddie threw a heck of a game today. She threw a good enough game to win. I was really proud of her… She's the kind of girl that can get those double plays. She's doing a great job and to watch her threw a better game the second day, that's pretty impressive"
On the senior class:
"They are a tremendous class. Their legacy is going to be felt by keeping the team in a position to keep fighting when it gets hard. I know we've lost a couple games here and they're feeling it late, but we're playing great competition. I think this is all about how we keep everyone believing in the fight and this a group that can do it."
