UW prepares for Border Battle rematch on Wednesday in 2022 Big Ten Softball Tournament
MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin softball program opens up postseason play against Minnesota on Wednesday at the 2022 Big Ten Softball Tournament in East Lansing, Michigan.
First pitch in the postseason Border Battle is set for 3:30 p.m. CT and can be seen live on BTN.
Tickets for the tournament are available on the Michigan State website as all-session passes are $20 while single-game tickets are $5.
1. LAST TIME OUT: The Badgers are coming off of a tough stretch last week as UW played at Minnesota in a midweek doubleheader before hosting No. 22 Michigan in Madison. UW dropped both games in the doubleheader to the Golden Gophers while the Badgers were swept for the first time at home this season against the Wolverines.
2. ABOUT THE TOURNAMENT: This marks the first year that the Big Ten Softball Tournament has taken place since 2019 as the 2020 tournament was canceled due to COVID-19 and the teams elected not to have a tournament last season. The last time the tournament took place in 2019 the Badgers made a run to the semifinals, topping Iowa and Ohio State before falling to Michigan in their fourth-ever appearance in the Big Ten semifinals.
3. A SPECIAL SENIOR SENDOFF: Sunday's Senior Day was a memorable for the Badgers as senior Morgan Kummer hit her second home run of the season, a three-run shot in the first inning, before fellow senior Kayla Konwent broke the Badgers' career home run record with her 32nd career dinger in the second inning. Konwent leads UW this year with 10 home runs and is one of two players in school history to have multiple seasons of 10+ home runs.
4. AGAINST THE GOPHERS:The Badgers enter the tournament looking for their first win against Minnesota since the 2016 season. The Badgers dropped a 1-0 game to Minnesota last Wednesday before falling to the Gophers 4-2 in the nightcap of a doubleheader. UW is 1-1 all-time against Minnesota in the Big Ten Softball Tournament with the one win coming in the championship game of the 2013 Big Ten Softball Tournament when the Badgers claimed their first conference crown.
5. UP NEXT: The winner of UW/Minnesota will take on the Big Ten champion Northwestern Wildcats on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. CT in a game that can be seen live on BTN. The Badgers and Wildcats did not meet during the regular season.
Following the conference tournaments, the NCAA will have its selection show for the 2022 NCAA softball tournament on Sunday, May 15 at 6 p.m. on ESPN2.
