WEST WINDSOR, N.J. – The five-time national champion Wisconsin women's lightweight rowing program opened its 2022 national championships with each of its boats getting on the water Saturday on Mercer Lake.
The lightweight double sculls were the only ones racing with something on the line, needing a top-three finish in its heat, and the Badgers took second to reach Sunday's Grand Final.
In the eight and four, boats only raced for lane assignments for Sunday's title races.

Lightweight Coach Hodge Habibovic
"Today was a chance for our athletes to get a good piece down the course in a low pressure environment as the eight and four events had a 'race for lanes' heat. The double had a great race as they needed to go top 3 to progress through the Grand Final and they stepped up to the challenge. We have a few things we think we can really improve on as we head into the Grand Finals tomorrow so we are excited for the chance to line up again and go for a national championship title."
