MADISON, Wis. — Current Wisconsin Wrestlers Joseph Zargo and Trent Hillger will compete in the USA Wrestling U20 and U23 World Team Trials in Geneva, Ohio this weekend.
Future Badger James Rowley, an incoming freshman and four-time Oregon state high school champion, will also be competing in the U20 tournament held at the Spire Institute.
The U20 champion in each weight class automatically qualifies to compete for Team USA at the 2022 UWW U20 World Championships in Sofia, Bulgaria (Aug. 15-21). The top eight place winners who are eligible qualify for the Junior National Championships held in Fargo, N.D., on July 15-22.
The U23 champions of each weight classe will go to the UWW U23 World Championships in Pontevedra, Spain, October 17-23, 2022, unless an eligible member of the Senior Team claims the spot.
Now a sophomore, Zargo regularly started for the Badgers at 141 pounds and earned his first career NCAA qualification in March. He will compete in the U20 tournament in the 65 kilogram men's freestyle bracket.
Three-time NCAA All-American Hillger, the Badgers' leading starter at heavyweight (285), will compete at 125 KG in men's freestyle in the U23 tournament.
Rowley, a 2021 Cadet World finalist and one of the nation's top high school wrestlers, will also compete in the U20 tournament at 79 kilograms in men's freestyle.
The tournaments start on Saturday, June 4 at 8:30 a.m. CT for both the U20 and U23 competitions. U20 medal matches and finals will begin at 3 p.m. CT Saturday. U23 quarters, semifinals, consolation, and medal matches will begin at 9 a.m. Sunday. The tournament will be streamed live on FloWrestling and live results will be available at arena.flowrestling.org.
