No. 22 Badgers Sink Butler, 2-0

INDIANAPOLIS - Paced by a pair of goals in the first half, the No. 22 Wisconsin women's soccer team took care of Butler, 2-0, Sunday afternoon at the Bud and Jackie Sellick Bowl.

Natalie Viggiano got the Badgers on the board early, delivering what proved to be the game-winning goal in the ninth minute. Fellow senior Emma Jaskaniec pushed her point streak to five games with her fourth goal of the season on a penalty kick in the 25th minute.

Even though the Bulldogs held a 16-8 advantage in shots and a 9-2 edge in corner kicks, the Badger defense held for their fourth shutout of the season. Erin McKinney made seven saves in net as she registered her fourth clean sheet of the season.

Working in transition, Maia Richters split a pair of defenders with a through ball, and Viggiano took a touch before slotting the ball into the far back post as Wisconsin seized the early momentum.

Jaskaniec made it a perfect 3-for-3 in penalty kicks this season as the Badgers pulled ahead by two and never looked back.

Wisconsin will return to McClimon Field and start another two-game homestand on Thursday, Sept. 8 at 7 p.m. against Milwaukee.
