WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The University of Wisconsin women's basketball was unable to complete a second-half comeback on Sunday afternoon at Purdue as it fell 73-61.
Avery LaBarbera led the team with 16 points, and added in six rebounds, three assists and three steals. Maty Wilke notched 14 points, with nine of those points coming from behind-the-arc, and Julie Pospisilova chipped in 10 points. The Badgers shot 48.9% from the field, but turned the ball over 26 times, and Purdue capitalized as it notched 30 points off Badger miscues.
Despite a 15-point deficit in the second quarter, the Badgers were able to battle back, and trailed by six at the break. LaBarbera and Pospisilova started the second half with back-to-back buckets to make it a two-point game. Purdue pushed ahead until the Badgers went on a 5-0 spurt, as Wilke and Hillard brought UW within one, 40-39, with less than two minutes left in the third.
However, Purdue executed down the stretch, and used an 11-2 run late in the fourth to put the game away.
Wisconsin will return to the court at 3 p.m. next Sunday, Jan. 8 at the Kohl Center against Minnesota.
