COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Badger women's tennis team capped off their weekend in Columbia, S.C. with doubles action against Wake Forest and singles against Georgia Tech.
Ava Markham and
Maria Sholokhova put on a show in doubles, defeating Wake Forest's Casie Wooten and Mia Ahmad, 6-1. The partnership of
Xinyu Cai and
Taylor Cataldi also came out on top with a 6-4 in their match.
In singles play, Markham finished off her terrific weekend beating yet another ranked opponent in Georgia Tech's no. 109 ranked Mahak Jain. Markham finished the weekend 3-0 and put the rest of the country on notice in the process.
Charmaine Seah also finished the weekend on a high after topping Kate Sharabura, 7-5. 3-6, 6-1.
Up next, the team travels to Milwaukee to face Marquette on Thursday, January 19. Matches begin at noon (CT).

It was another strong outing for the Wisconsin women's tennis team in their second day of the Carolina Kickoff. A highlight from the doubles session included senior
Charmaine Seah and sophomore
Taylor Cataldi winning, 6-3, against South Carolina's Alice Otis and Misa Malkin.
However, the biggest moment of the day came when senior
Ava Markham, who is currently ranked No. 82 in the country by the ITA, knocked off 27th-ranked Casie Wooten. Markham battled to pull out a 6-4 first set, then dominated Wooten, 6-0, in the second frame for the statement win.
In addition to Markham,
Xinyu Cai,
Taylor Cataldi and
Charmaine Seah also picked up their second singles win of the weekend on Saturday.
On Sunday, the final day of the Carolina Kickoff, Wisconsin will take on Georgia Tech in singles play before doubles action against Wake Forest.

The spring season began earlier Friday for the Wisconsin women's tennis team. To start the day the Badgers faced Georgia Tech in doubles, which saw
Ava Markham and
Maria Sholokhova triumph with a 7-6 (7-1) victory along with
Charmaine Seah and
Taylor Cataldi winning their match 6-4. Georgia Tech is currently ranked 25th in the country as a team in the ITA rankings.
In singles, five out of the six Badgers won their matches. Straight from head coach
