COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The Wisconsin women's soccer team (11-3-3) traveled to College Park to face Maryland (3-9-5) in the team's second to last conference match of the season. It was a dominant showing for the Badgers, who won 3-0.
How it happened
It was the
Emma Jaskaniec show straight from the whistle. The senior returned to the lineup after missing the previous match due to injury. However, she had her best half of the season and one of best performances to date against the Terrapins. It only took Jaskaniec 15 minutes to get on the board, scoring off a fantastic team goal that started from the back.
She proceeded to score an absurd goal only five minutes later, in the 20th minute, hitting the ball into the top left corner from the top of the box.
To close out the first half hat trick she made a darting run behind the Maryland defense, with
Gabby Green passing an inch-perfect ball, to score her third. Jaskaniec is now tied for third-most goals in the Big Ten and extends her season stats to 10 goals and four assists.
It was a record night for Jaskaniec, who is now only the fifth Badger to score a hat trick against a Big Ten opponent and the only Badger with a fist half hat trick since at least 1996.
From there, it was smooth sailing for the Badgers. The team held the lead for the rest of the match, holding Maryland to only four total shots and two shots on goal.
With the win, Wisconsin sits fourth in the Big Ten with a conference record of 6-2-1.
