IOWA CITY, Iowa - The Wisconsin men's rowing novices kicked off their 2023-24 season in Iowa last weekend, competing in the Iowa Chase. The Badgers sent nine different boats to compete.
Up next: The Badgers travel to Princeton, New Jersey on Nov. 5 to compete in the Princeton Chase.

"I've heard stories from Coach Clark and Coach Hoopman about how fun this regatta can be and how important it is for the freshman to get racing in early in their careers. A lot of the guys on this trip started rowing about a month ago and for them to get racing experience this early is huge for their development. In fact, today was the longest piece that most of those guys have rowed by all eight, and some guys first time in a four. The past few years we haven't had a second fall race, so getting them out this weekend ahead of our regatta in Indy in a couple weeks is great for their development. For most guys on this trip, it was their first race as a Badger - with that comes a lot of learning about how we operate, race and function as a unit. We owe a big thank you to Danelle and Hawkeye Community Rowing for hosting a great event. I'm grateful we got this opportunity and looking forward to having the guys race again in a couple weeks."
