No. 18 Badgers open season at home against Lions
MADISON, Wis. – Led by two-time NCAA All-Americans Eric Barnett and Dean Hamiti, No. 18 Wisconsin opens the 2023-24 season at home against Lindenwood on Sunday, Nov. 5 at 1 p.m.
The dual match held at the UW Field House will be streamed live on B1G+. Nate Arquinego of WIWrestle.com will be on the call.

1. Last Time Out:
Wisconsin qualified eight wrestlers to the 2023 NCAA Championships and finished tied for 16th overall with Iowa State (29.0 points. Dean Hamiti, the 2023 Big Ten Champion, finished sixth at 165 pounds to earn his second All-American honor and Trent Hillger finished eighth to earn his fourth All-American honor, the first heavyweight in UW school history to earn four in his career.

2. Climbing Lions:
Lindenwood is making the climb to Division I and currently competes in the NCWA Southwest Conference and NCWA Championships. Lindenwood Athletics will begin to earn automatic bids for NCAA Division I Championships beginning in the 2026-27 school year, the Lions full first season of Division I membership. This marks the first dual in program history between the two wrestling programs.
3. Scouting Report:
Lindenwood also opens the season at Wisconsin on Sunday. Looking back at last year - the Lions’ first season competing against Division I competition - the team competed in 17 events and finished 1-9 in dual matches. Despite a challenging start, the team put points on the board against some of the strongest Division I programs including Minnesota and Stanford. Among returners expected to step on the mat against the Badgers, Kaden Charboneau placed second at the Drury Open (Dec. 3, 2022) at 165 pounds with a 3-1 record including a pin.

4. New Badgers
Wisconsin welcomed four transfers and eight true freshman this season. Check out Wisconsin's full roster here.
Four of these new Badgers are in the possible lineup for wrestling against Lindenwood on Sunday, as Zan Fugitt (133), Luke Mechler (157), Max Maylor (174) and Shane Liegel (184) are all penciled in to possibly rep the Badgers (see full lineups below).

Four Badgers earned national rankings in the latest Intermat poll, while the team earned No. 18 rankings by both Intermat and the National Wrestling Coaches Association.
