IOWA CITY, Iowa — The Wisconsin women's track and field team opened its 2023-24 indoor campaign on Saturday with a strong showing at the Jimmy Grant Invitational.
Selected UW sprints, hurdles and distance student-athletes made the trip to Hawkeye Indoor Track Facility in Iowa City to take on athletes from Iowa, Truman and Western Illinois.
Freshman Zaira Malloy-Salgado won the 3,000 meters to lead a group of eight Badgers that collected top-10 finishes in the event. Malloy Salgado finished with 10 minutes and 0.52 seconds, followed by Schoesser, who took second in 10:07.86, while Madelaine Sweeney rounded out the top three with a time of 10.08.84. Erinn Hill finished fourth in 10:13.22, Mikaela Helling followed quickly behind in 10:15.32, and Peterson finished sixth in 10:24.53. Megan Lee and Myra Stray finished seventh and eighth, with times of 10:28.09 and 10:37.41, respectively.
Senior Kiley Robbins started her season in the 60 meters with a time of 7.50 seconds in the preliminary round. Rachel Robinson competed alongside Robbins and finished ninth in 7.84. In the finals, Robbins finished third in 7.60.
Robbins and Robinson were back competing in the 300 meters, they finished sixth and seventh in 42.60 and 43.14, respectively.
In the mile three Badgers earned top-10 finishes as freshman Ruby Madden finished fourth in her debut race with a time of 5:02.43. Anna Schoesser and Ashley Peterson finished back-to-back, Schoesser finished eighth in 5:10.51, and Peterson ninth with a personal best time of 5:10.83.
Freshman Katya Geyer made her Badger debut in the 600 meters, finishing fourth in 1:36.19.

The Badgers will return competing in the New Year as they head to Chicago for the Wisconsin Midwest Invitational at the Gately Indoor Track on January 13, 2024.
