Five events to watch: Wisconsin hosts Valentine's Invitational

Wisconsin also sends select athletes to Alex Wilson Invitational
MADISON, Wis. - The Wisconsin men's track and field team hosts the Badger Valentine Invitational this Friday at Camp Randall Memorial Sports Center (The Shell). Events begin at 3 p.m. and admission is free. Select middle distance and distance athletes, including the distance medley relay, heads to South Bend, Indiana for the Alex Wilson Invitational on Saturday. Events begin at 9:30 a.m. CT.
Here are the five events to watch:
1. WHERE WE STAND: The Badgers are ranked first in the USTFCCCA Great Lakes Region released on Monday. Big Ten foes Indiana (No. 2), Ohio State (No. 4) and Michigan (No. 5) complete the top five teams.
2. BADGER THROWS: Competing in the men's shot put this Friday is redshirt junior Andrew Stone. Stone is ranked 10th in the Big Ten this season and second all-time at UW. Grad student Sam Coil is set to compete in the men's weight throw, Coil threw a personal record last weekend of 72-3 ½, ranking him fourth in the Big Ten this season, 13th in the nation and third all-time at UW.
3. DMR HEADS TO NOTRE DAME: Competing at the Alex Wilson Invitational at the University of Notre Dame are athletes Jackson Sharp, Colin Enz, Abdullahi Hassan, and Adam Spencer, looking to qualify for the NCAA championship in the distance medley relay. Last year, the quartet finished third at the Alex Wilson, running a school-record time of 9 minutes, 25.78 seconds.
4. SPRINTS: Competing this weekend are freshmen Giovanni Wearing in the 60-meter hurdles and Jalen Williams in the 200 meters. Wearing is ranked 17th in the Big Ten this season running his personal best of 8.05 in the hurdles.
