EVANSTON, Ill. - Led by Julie Pospisilova and Maty Wilke, the Wisconsin women's basketball team edged out Northwestern, 64-57, on Thursday night.Â
Pospisilova led the Badgers with 20 points, five rebounds, six assists and three steals. Wilke added 17 points, with six of her points coming in the final minute of the game. Avery LaBarbera rounded out double figure scoring as she finished with 11 points, six rebounds and tallied a team-high eight assists.Â
The Badgers started out hot from behind the three-point line, as they went 4-of-7 from distance. Wilke finished the first quarter with nine points, as Wisconsin took a 19-14 lead after the first 10 minutes.
The Badgers added to their 6-0 run that ended the first quarter, and made it a 15-1 run in the second quarter. The Wildcats followed that up with an 11-4 run of their own. The Badgers led, 32-26 heading into halftime.Â
The Wildcats trailed 50-48 with 7:36 remaining in the game. The Badgers answered with back-to-back three-pointers from LaBarbera and Pospisilova, to take a 56-48 lead. Northwestern replied with an 8-0 run and the game was tied with 2:35 on the clock.Â
Pospisilova weaved her way into the lane and found Wilke on the block for the go-ahead bucket with 48 seconds remaining. Northwestern came up empty-handed in the following possession, and Pospisilova found Wilke again for another layup with 24 seconds left, as the Badgers took a 60-56 lead
LaBarbera and Wilke executed from the free throw line, and the Badgers came away with a 64-57 win.Â
Up next, the Badgers will close out the regular season at home on Sunday afternoon against No. 12 Michigan. Tip off is set for 1 p.m. and the game will be broadcasted on BTN.
