MADISON, Wis. - The Wisconsin women's basketball team upset No. 12 Michigan, 78-70, for a memorable Senior Day on Sunday afternoon at the Kohl Center.
Julie Pospisilova led the Badgers 25 points, six rebounds and five assists. The senior went 10-for-16 from the floor and 3-for-3 from behind the arc.Â
Maty Wilke finished with 15 points, and Serah Williams added 14 points and five rebounds. Avery LaBarbera rounded out double-figure scoring with 12 points and had a team-high eight rebounds.Â
Wisconsin shot 49.1% from the floor, and went 9-for-17 from behind the three-point line.Â
The Badgers started out hot, with four made 3-pointers in the first quarter, as the score held at 18-all after the opening 10 minutes.
The game went back-and-forth the next two frames, as the Badgers led, 52-49 heading into the fourth quarter. Wisconsin opened up the the fourth quarter with a 3-pointer from Julie Pospisilova. From there, the Badgers went 14-of-16 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter and Michigan could not overcome the deficit.
The Badgers scored 47 points in the second half, shooting 12-for-21 from the floor, and connecting on 4-of-5 three-pointers. Wisconsin held Michigan to 13-for-32 from the field in the second half, and just 21.4% from behind the three-point line.Â
The upset against Michigan marks the first time the Badgers beat Michigan since 2014. With this win, the Badgers earned themselves a first-round bye in the Big Ten tournament. Additionally, Wisconsin has won three straight Big Ten games for the first time sine the 2010-11 season.
The Badgers, who finished as the No. 10 seed, will face No. 7 seed Purdue in the Big Ten Tournament on Thursday, March 2 at 5:30 p.m.
