BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Wisconsin softball team extended its win streak to eight-straight games with wins over IUPUI and Big Ten opponent Indiana, Sunday afternoon to wrap up the Hoosier Classic.Â
IUPUI
Molly Schlosser got things going in the bottom of the second inning against the IUPUI Jaguars, knocking a double down the left-field line. Wisconsin (10-6) then played small ball with back-to-back bunts from Ellie Hubbard and Peyton Bannon to take an early 1-0 lead. Bree Mitchell also added a single that inning; however, the Badgers were unable to score another run that inning.Â
The third inning started with a Brooke Kuffel single followed by a hit by pitch and errors that allowed Skylar Sirdashney to score after error on the IUPUI second baseman.
IUPUI was not out of it yet, though, as a triple hit by Jordan Jenkins scored Morgan Gilbert who had reached on a fielder's choice earlier in the inning to get within a run.
Wisconsin responded right back with an Ellie Hubbard single in the bottom of the fourth. More IUPUI errors and Wisconsin sacrifice bunts, this time put down by Kate Linkletter, scored Hubbard. Bannon, who had reached on a dropped pop fly earlier, scored unearned on an error from the Jaguars' defense to go up 4-1.
Another triple from IUPUI's offense in the top of the fifth inning kept the local team in it; however, more small ball from the Badgers allowed Katie Keller to score after Molly Schlosser and Ellie Hubbard laid down bunts, and go up 5-2.
The Badgers blew the game wide open with four walks, three hits, and six runs. Freshman Emily Bojan ended the game for the Badgers in her first collegiate at-bat for Wisconsin. With bases loaded, the Illinois native roped a 3-RBI double to left center, bringing in the team's final three runs to the plate and run-rule IUPUI.Â
Gabi Salo improved to 2-0 on the season and gave up just four hits, one earned run, and struck out three. Tessa Magnanimo pitched the final two frames and the senior allowed just one hit, one earned run, and had 4 K's in her time on the mound.Â
The Badgers won 11-2, which was the team's largest win of the season up to that point.
IndianaÂ
The Wisconsin bats once again surged in their final game against the Hoosiers, tallying 15 hits to crush the Hoosiers by a final score of 12-1 in five innings.Â
Skylar Sirdashney and Katie Keller, the team's one and two hitters, started the game with a double a piece. A double play denied any chance for the two to score; however, the Badger's offense set the tone early.Â
Indiana was able to get a run across in the bottom of the first on an RBI single from Taylor Minnick.
Wisconsin respond right back as the following inning was paced by a Peyton Bannon single and two doubles by Rylie Crane and Christaana Angelopulos. Bannon was ruled out at home on Crane's double with a perfect relay starting in left field. However, Angelopulos's double brought in freshman Crane to tie the game up in the second. Â
In the third inning, the Badgers found success as they batted through the entire lineup. Skylar Sirdashney started the inning off with a single through the left side. With one out and bases loaded, Ellie Hubbard smacked a double down the right field line to put the Badgers up 3-1. Peyton Bannon followed with a triple of her own, scoring both Schlosser and Hubbard. Rylie Crane kept things in the infield with a sac bunt and scored Bannon the next play. Crane then crossed the plate on a fielder's choice that was hit by Skylar Sirdashney during her second at-bat of the inning for a 7-1 lead.
Wisconsin went into the fourth inning up 7-1 and continued to add to their lead. Kayla Konwent hit for extra bases once again, with a double sent to the right field. Peyton Bannon came up to the plate and hit a sacrifice fly to score Marytherese Nevin, who was pinch-running for Konwent. Rylie Crane kept her hot day going with a two RBI triple in her next at-bat. The Badger bats remained hot as Christaana Angelopulos singled to second base and scored Crane to put the Badgers up nine runs with a score of 10-1.
Emily Bojan kept her batting average at 1.000 when she singled in the second at-bat of her career in the fifth inning. Later on, Schlosser scored the team's final run on a wild pitch past the catcher.Â
While the Badgers scored 12 runs on 16 hits, the Hoosier remained quiet thanks to freshman Paytn Monticelli on the mound. In the five innings she pitched, Monticelli gave up only three hits, one walk, and one earned run in the 19 batters she faced.Â
Monticelli ended the game for the Badgers in the bottom of the fifth, pitching a one-two-three inning and  to solidify a Badger victory.Â
