LOS ANGELES - The Wisconsin men's track and field team won four events, winning three Thursday at the Pacific Coast Invitational in Long Beach and one Wednesday at the Cal State LA Twilight.
Johnson, Nibbelink, and Swarens win events at Pacific Coast
Lawrence Johnson began his outdoor season at the Pacific Coast Invitational, winning the 100-meter dash at 10.35 seconds. Johnson is currently tied for sixth in the Big Ten this season.
Grad student
Ben Nibbelink won the 1500 meters, running a time of 3:48.32, just one second off his personal record. Nibbelink is now ranked 11th in the Big Ten this season.
Jason Swarens threw a toss of 62-8 ½ that gave him the win in the shot put. Finishing third in the shot put was
Andrew Stone with a toss of 60-3.
In the 110-meter hurdles, freshman
Giovanni Wearing finished third, running a time of 13.95, landing him sixth in the Big Ten this season. Robbie Hatch placed 10th in the 400-meter hurdles at 55.03. Freshman
Jalen Williams finished ninth in the 400 meters with a time of 48.63. In the men's 4x400 relay, the quartet of
Sam Amusan, Wearing, Johnson, and Williams finished fourth in 41.09.
In the jumps,
Justin Kiefel placed fourth with a hop, skip and jump of 48-7 ¼ in the triple jump.
Sam Coil wins hammer
Grad student
Sam Coil threw a winning toss and personal best of 219-10 in the hammer at the Cal State LA Twilight on Wednesday. His throw moves up to second on the UW all-time list and third in the Big Ten this season. The Badgers had four of the top-five finishes with
Cole Hooper taking second with a toss of 198-3, Swarens took third at 186-5, and
Nick Tomasovic placed fifth with throw of 180-11.
Bryan Clay Invite Decathlon
Redshirt junior
Quinn Lansill stands in fourth place after the first day of the decathlon at the Bryan Clay Invite with 3,591 points. Lansill leaped to a personal best of 22-2 ¼, finishing sixth in the long jump. In the 100-meters, he placed sixth with a time of 11.29. Lansill also finished fourth in the high jump with a clearance of 6-1 1/4 and third in the 400 meters in 50.44.
