Badgers take part in their conference championships
MADISON, Wis. - The Wisconsin women's lightweight rowing team will compete in their its conference championships this weekend in Worcester, Massachusetts, at the Women's Eastern Sprints.
Before the Badgers hit the water, here are f(oar) things to know:
1. LAST TIME OUT: Wisconsin took two out of three races at Stanford last weekend after multiple delays on the way to California. Their connecting flight from Dallas to San Francisco got canceled, so they scrambled to book a hotel for the night. The next morning, the only flight they could get to California was out of Austin. The team rented cars and drove three and a half hours to Austin, where the flight got canceled again. They rebooked for Friday night and finally arrived in San Francisco at midnight. With only 24 hours to prepare, the Badgers were able to win the varsity four and the double, and put up a good race in the varsity eight.Â
2. BACK TO IT: After a quick turnaround on top of the travel woes from last weekend, the Badgers took this week to fine tune. "We had some good racing, good experience and team bonding," said Coach Hodge. They landed in Madison at 11 p.m. on Sunday night, and flew out to Boston on Friday morning. On Sunday, Wisconsin will race in preliminary heats in the morning, followed by finals in the afternoon. The team is looking to turn some heads before they take the month of May to prepare for the IRA national championships in June.
3. RANKINGS: The Badgers come in at number six in the polls this week. With Princeton, Boston, Georgetown, Stanford and Harvard ahead of them and MIT trailing them.
