Two Badgers earn conference honors
Madison, Wis. – Katie Keller and Maddie Schwartz of the Wisconsin softball team were named First Team All-Big Ten, the conference announced Wednesday morning.
Fifth year Katie Keller certainly made an impression in the Big Ten after only one season in the conference. The former three-time first team All-Mid-American (MAC) can now add first team All-Big Ten to her resume. The Illinois native led the team in with a .381 overall batting average, 53 hits and 15 doubles. Keller also knocked in 24 on the season, and had a .633 slugging percentage and .452 on-base percentage. In the Big Ten, Keller ranked ninth in batting average (.389), eighth in runs scored (19), eighth in hits (28), and second in the conference with eight doubles. With 15 doubles on the season (so far), Keller moved up to second all-time on the NCAA list for most career doubles (85).
Minnesota native Maddie Schwartz is no stranger to all-conference honors as the right-handed pitcher landed a spot on the first team All-Big Ten list. Schwartz tallied three complete game shutouts, including the program's 11th no-hitter (vs Purdue) – which also earned her Big Ten Pitcher of the week. She finished with a conference best 1.27 Big Ten ERA, and sixth-best 1.66 ERA overall. In 135 innings pitched, Schwartz finished with 72 strikeouts and just 24 walks. In conference play, Schwartz allowed just 15 earned runs, while walking just 16 total batters. In 2022, Schwartz was named second team All-Big Ten.
Sophomore Kate Linkletter was also named an All-Sportsmanship honoree.
