MADISON, Wis. – Graduate student wrestler
Taylor LaMont earned recognition as part of the
2023 Academic All-District Men's At-Large Team, as selected by College Sports Communicators.
The award recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances in the athletic realm and in the classroom.
LaMont, who is graduating from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a Master's degree in sports leadership, holds an unblemished 4.0 grade-point average as of last fall after joining the Badgers as a graduate transfer.
He previously earned both a Master's degree in marriage and family therapy (3.96 GPA) and a bachelor's degree in psychology (3.79 GPA) to graduate Cum Laude from Utah Valley. While wrestling for the Wolverines, LaMont was a four-time Academic All-Big 12 First Team honoree.
He became a five-time National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Scholar All-American this year while wrestling for Wisconsin.
LaMont was a 2021 NCAA All-American at 125 pounds after placing fifth overall in the nation and second at the 2021 Big 12 Championships. He is a five-time NCAA Qualifier at 125 pounds and 133 pounds, most recently placing ninth at the 2023 Big Ten Championships (133) to earn his fifth national tournament qualification of his career during his final collegiate season competing for the Badgers.
LaMont compiled a 99-42 overall career record in wrestling at 125 and 133. During his wrestling career, he earned 37 bonus-point victories including 13 pins, seven tech falls and 17 major decisions.
Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced June 21 (men) and June 22 (women).
