F(oar) Things to Know: IRA National Championships

Badgers ready

MADISON, Wis. - The Wisconsin women's lightweight rowing team will close out the season this weekend at the 2023 IRA National Championships. The Badgers will compete on Saturday and Sunday, June 3-4 on Mercer Lake in West Windsor, New Jersey.

Before the Badgers hit the water, here are f(oar) things to know:

1. READY TO ROW: With their last regatta on April 30, Wisconsin used the month of May to thoroughly prepare for IRAs. Coach Hodge said, "We've been able to really take advantage of the time on the water and get our best strokes in post final exams, which was really nice to see. We said we had to make the most out of this time and I think we really took advantage of all the water time we could get."

2. BUILD TO THIS: The Badgers have been building upon each week of training and racing all season. According to Coach Hodge, this group is extremely driven and they have established a great foundation of technical mechanics combined with rhythm at race pace to build speed. With this, they are looking to capitalize on it this weekend. Additionally, Coach said, "The team is simply more mature and more experienced than they were at the start of the season… We've leveled up on all fronts from technique, fitness, daily habits, culture, etc. and are excited for another chance to race for a national championship."

3. FAMILIAR FACES: Wisconsin has been racing against these teams all season, as they saw most of them at the Eastern Sprints on April 30 or at Stanford on April 23. The Badgers saw good progress in those races, and will look to continue that momentum into this weekend. The Badgers will be racing against Gordon, Georgetown, Boston U, Princeton, Radcliffe, MIT and Stanford.
