
Stramel goes No. 21 to Minnesota in NHL draft

Forward became 18th Badger to go in the first round all-time
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Rising sophomore Charlie Stramel went No. 21 to the Minnesota Wild on the first day of the 2023 NHL Draft on Thursday at Bridgestone Arena.
Stramel, a 6-3 forward, scored five goals and 12 points in 33 games played during his freshman season last year at Wisconsin.
The Rosemount, Minnesota, native is the eighth first-round pick for the Badgers over the past eight NHL drafts and is also the 18th first-round pick for Wisconsin all-time.
The two-time World Junior Championship competitor won a bronze medal with the team at the 2023 event. Before the Badgers, Stramel played with the U.S. Under-18 Team as part of the U.S. National Team Development Program.
The 2023 NHL Draft finishes with rounds 2-7 on Thursday beginning 10 a.m. CT. The draft airs on NHL Network and streams on ESPN+.
Incoming UW skaters William Whitelaw, Brady Cleveland and Zach Schulz are all projected to get picked on Day 2.
