MADISON, Wis. — One of college basketball's greatest and most historic rivalries will be renewed on Saturday, December 2 at the Kohl Center when Wisconsin men's basketball hosts Marquette for its annual matchup.
This season will mark the 130th meeting between the two schools, dating back to 1917. Wisconsin holds a 70-59 advantage in the series, winning three of the last four meetings.
The Badgers currently hold a two-game win streak against the Golden Eagles, including an 80-77 overtime win last year at Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee. Returning to the Kohl Center this season, UW looks to build on its 40-18 series advantage for games played in Madison. UW and MU last faced at the Kohl Center in 2021, when the Badgers notched an 89-76 victory.
Marquette returns four starters – Tyler Kolek, Kam Jones, Oso Ighodaro and Stevie Mitchell – from a team that won the Big EAST regular season championship last season.  The Golden Eagles are led by head coach Shaka Smart, who holds a 320-162 all-time record, including a 48-20 mark at Marquette.
Wisconsin returns its entire starting five and a number of rotation players from a team that advanced to the National Invitation Tournament (NIT) semifinals last season in Las Vegas. All-Big Ten honorable mention point guard
Chucky Hepburn, All-Big Ten freshman
Connor Essegian, fifth-year senior
Tyler Wahl,
Steven Crowl and
Max Klesmit all return after starting last year. Gard, a two-time Big Ten Coach of the Year, begins his ninth season leading the Badgers in 2023-24.
