Badgers win first team title of 2023 campaign
CHICAGO – Bob Liking and Jackson Sharp finished 1-2 as the fourth-ranked Wisconsin men's cross country team took home the team title at Friday's Sean Earl Lakefront Invitational.
A two-time Big Ten Champion, Liking picked up his third collegiate cross country win, finishing with a time of 23:26.6.
All-American Sharp crossed the line at 23:31.3 in his season debut.
Wisconsin posted 49 points, 60 less than second-place Iona, as senior Evan Bishop was the third Badger – 11th runner overall – to cross the line. The Grand Rapids, Michigan, native finished at 23:54.8.
Sophomore Micah Wilson placed in the top-20 with a time of 23:58.1, while redshirt senior Rowen Ellenberg came in 21st overall, finishing in 24 minutes, 7.8 seconds. Sophomore Anthony Adriansen and senior Benjamin Nibbelink both placed in the top-50.
In the earlier Gold Division Race, UW unattached runners Liam Newhart and Nick Hruskoci both posted strong outings. Newhart finished in 24 minutes, 43.7 seconds, to earn second-place in his first collegiate cross country race. Hruskoci finished fourth with a time of 25:04.1

"It was fun competing today in Chicago along Lake Michigan. It almost felt like a home meet, and both teams ran very well. On the men's side, the guys we ran today did a solid job upfront through 6k. We're coming off a big training block, and the guys responded well to the massive pace change over the last few kilometers."

The Badgers will host the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational, presented by Under Armour, on Oct. 13. eight of the top-10 teams in the USTFCCCA National Poll are set to race in what is one of the nation's premier collegiate meets.
