Hamiti, a junior from Joliet, Illinois, earned the conference's weekly award after a undefeated performance winning the 2023 Midlands Championships title at 165 pounds. This is the second Big Ten weekly honor for Hamiti both this season and in his career. He was named the Big Ten Co-Wrestler of the Week for Nov. 14 earlier this fall after winning the 2023 Michigan Open title.
Hamiti owned the 165-pound bracket of the Midlands Championship and claimed the crown that he narrowly missed in 2022. After earning three pins on Friday, Dec. 29 to advance, the Badger earned two major decisions by shutout and did not allow a single point to be scored against him. He scored three takedowns en route to a 12-0 victory over West Virginia's Peyton Hall in the final. Hamiti also earned the Jack Leese Champion of Champions Award (as voted on by all 10 champions) and the Dan Gable Men's Outstanding Wrestler award.
