IOWA CITY, Iowa – The Wisconsin women's track and field team was back competing on Saturday for the second day of the Larry Wieczorek Invitational.
The Badger women shined in the premier mile, and four athletes placed in the top eight, all running new personal best times in the event. Graduate student Madison Mooney led the pack, taking home the win with a time of 4 minutes, 41.22 seconds. Mooney was followed by juniors Mya Bunke and Leane Willemse, who finished second and third, respectively. Bunke finished with a time of 4:42.86, while Willemse crossed in 4:44.66. Vivian Hacker rounded out the top finishers for UW, coming in eighth with a time of 5:53.86.
UW continued finding success in the mile as they captured a season-best time and three personal-best times in the open edition of the event. Anna Schoesser secured a second-place finish, crossing with a season-best time of 5:04.35. Ashley Peterson earned herself a third-place finish with a personal best time of 5:07.31. It was then back-to-back finishes by freshman Myra Stray and Megan Lee, both running personal bests. Stray finished fifth in 5:09.10, and Lee finished sixth, crossing in 5:10.74.
Also standing out for Wisconsin on the second day of competition were juniors Maggie Munson and Kylie Finger. The two competed alongside one another in the 800-meter premier race, with Munson finishing fifth in 2:12.13 and Finger 10th in 2:15.87. Freshman Katya Geyer was the lone Badger to compete in the open 800 meters, finishing fourth in 2:19.32.
After qualifying for the 60-meter finals earlier in the day, Kylie Robbins was back competing, finishing third in 7.51. Shaina Zinter ran a new personal best time in the finals of the 60-meter hurdle finals, finishing fifth in 8.54.
The Wisconsin 4x400 squad of Mooney, Munson, Geyer, and Schoesser finished in 3:58.80 to claim third.
In the pole vault, Julia Moore cleared 12 feet, 1 ½ inches (3.70m) for a seventh-place finish, with Kenzi Kluge finishing one place behind her with a season-best of 11-7 ¾ (3.55m).
