MADISON, Wis. — After three matches on the road to open up Big Ten play, the No. 9 Badgers return to the UW Field House for a match against No. 25 Washington on Sunday afternoon. First serve is set for 1 p.m. and will be aired on B1G+.
Before the match begins, here are six things to know:Â
1. LAST TIME OUT: The Badgers (8-4, 2-1 B1G) grabbed a winning record in the Big Ten, with sweeps of Northwestern and Rutgers, after dropping a five-setter to Minnesota. En route to a 25-18, 25-14, 25-18 victory over Rutgers, UW notched 18 kills with a .441 hitting percentage in the first frame. Sarah Franklin tallied 12 kills, for her tenth match with double digit kills.
2. 300 FOR THE SHEFF: With the victory over Rutgers, head coach Kelly Sheffield reached his 300th Wisconsin win. Sheffield becomes just the second to reach 300 win in program history. In 14 years with Wisconsin, 2024 UW Hall of Fame Inductee, Pete Waite, accumulated 305 career wins at Wisconsin.
3. UW VS UW:Â Before joining the Big Ten, Washington and Wisconsin have met just seven times in program history. The Huskies lead the all-time series 6-1, with Wisconsin's only win coming back in 1999.
4. BIG-TIME NUMBERS FOR FRANKÂ :Â Sarah Franklin has totaled 1,595 career kills which ranks 13th among all current Division I athletes. Emily Londot of Ohio State leads all with 1,944, while Raina Terry (1,840 for fourth) of Illinois, and Jess Murzik (1,655 for 9th) of Penn State round out the Top 10.
5. HOLDING STEADY: Wisconsin has been ranked in the AVCA national poll for 172 consecutive polls, including the last 75-straight polls in the top 10. The Badgers fell to No. 9 this week, after dropping the match to No. 16 Minnesota.
6. SCOUTING THE HUSKIES: No. 25 Washington has yet to drop a match this season. They opened up their first Big Ten season at home with matches against Indiana and Illinois, sweeping both teams. Â Washington welcomed six new players to the team this season, including three transfers and three freshmen. Audra Wilmes leads the team with 3.17 kills per set.
