Second-half surge leads Badgers past Hoyas

Porter picks up 26 points for a new career-high

MADISON, Wis. — The Wisconsin women's basketball team had a second-half surge en route to a 79-61 win over the Georgetown Hoyas.

Ronnie Porter earned a new career-high 26 points. Her last career-high was 19 points against Wright State on Nov. 5.

For the first time since 2019, two Badgers have scored double-doubles in the same game: Serah Williams (17 pts., 16 reb.) and Carter McCray (11 pts., 11 reb.).

In the game, Wisconsin shot 50.0% (32-64) from the field, 42.1% (8-19) from 3-point range, and 53.8% (7-13) at the charity stripe. The team also led in points in the paint, 40-16, and gained 14 points off of turnovers.

The Badgers' defense stifled shooters tonight, holding the Hoyas to 39.3% (22-56) from field-goal range, including 35.0% (7-20) from behind the arc.

How it Happened
Wisconsin and Georgetown traded buckets back and forth, with Porter hitting a last-second shot right before the break. The Badgers trailed 33-32 at the half, but led in points in the paint 12-8.

The team hit its stride midway through the second half, breaking away with a 7-0 run to end the third. McCray and Porter were instrumental this quarter, with McCray banking four shots for five points and Porter hitting another buzzer-beater.

Porter maintained the momentum in the fourth, tallying eight-straight points to increase the Badgers' advantage to 64-56 with 5:20 to play.

A few possessions later, Tess Myers showcased her sharpshooting. She hit back-to-back three-pointers, contributing to a 10-2 run that ballooned Wisconsin's lead to 79-59.
