MADISON, Wis. — The Wisconsin women's basketball team (3-1, 0-0 B1G) will continue its homestand at the Kohl Center, hosting the UIC Flames (3-1, 0-0 Missouri Valley) on Thursday, Nov. 21. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. (CT). The game will be streamed on B1G+ and broadcast on 1070 WTSO-AM.
Here are five things to know before the Badgers face the Flames:
1. A GLANCE AT THE SEASON: This season, the Badgers are showing impressive depth, with 12 different players scoring. Leading the way are Serah Williams (19.8 ppg), Ronnie Porter (16.8 ppg), and Tess Myers (11.0 ppg). The team is dominating the boards, out-rebounding opponents 41.5 to 35.0—an improvement over last year's slim 36.3 to 36.0 edge. Additionally, the Badgers have made significant strides in reducing turnovers, averaging just 10.0 per game compared to 18.5 last season.
2. LAST TIME OUT: Wisconsin cruised to a dominant 82-45 victory over the Milwaukee Panthers, extending its all-time series lead to 29-4. Defensively, the Badgers stunned the Panthers, holding them to a season-low 30.5% shooting (18-59) from the field and just 13.0% (3-23) from beyond the arc. Myers and Carter McCray each scored 15 points, setting new season highs, with Myers also draining five three-pointers for another season best. Williams added 14 points, bringing her career total to 996. As a team, Wisconsin shot 47.8% (33-69) from the field, 40.9% (9-22) from three-point range, and 77.8% (7-9) at the free-throw line. The Badgers dominated in the paint, outscoring Milwaukee 48-24.
3. HISTORY WITH UIC: Wisconsin holds a 13-6 all-time series advantage over the Flames, including an 8-2 record in Madison. In the most recent meeting during the 2013-14 season, the Badgers were narrowly defeated by the Flames, 58-56.
4. SCOUTING THE FLAMES: The Flames are still searching for their first win of the season, starting off 0-2 after losses to Cincinnati and Green Bay. Leading the way for UIC is senior Makiyah Williams, who is averaging 17.0 points and 1.5 rebounds per game. UIC is shooting 36.8% from the field and averaging 32.0 rebounds per game as a team. However, they are being outscored by opponents by an average of 7.5 points per game. The Flames currently lead the MVC in three-point percentage at 40.0% and free throw percentage at 78.1%.
