
Swarens and Sharp dominate during Day 2 of Windy City Invitational

Badgers conclude record-setting weekend in Chicago
CHICAGO – The UW men's track & field team won two events on Day 2 of the Badger Windy City Invitational as Jason Swarens improved to No. 2 on the UW top-10 list in the shot put.
Swarens, a redshirt senior from Terre Haute, Indiana, set an indoor personal best and won the event with a throw of 65 feet, 4 3/4 inches (19.93m). The mark is the second-best in Division I and the best in the Big Ten Conference. Additionally, Andrew Stone finished third in the shot put with a heave of 61-1 ½ (18.63m).
Jackson Sharp won the 3000-meter invite in a loaded field. His time of 7:45.29, one second off his personal best, is the 11th best in Division I this season and the best in the Big Ten. Bob Liking finished second in the event, finishing at 7:46.32. Liking's time places him fourth on the UW top-10 list, 14th in Division I and second in the Big Ten, trailing only Sharp. The duo are now firmly in contention to compete at this year's NCAA Championships.
Bryce Stachewicz continued his strong freshman campaign as he set a personal best in the mile, finishing third in 4:02.56. Benjamin Nibbelink toppled his personal record in the 3000 meters after finishing fifth at 7:58.10. Joe dosReis set his own PR in the 800 meters, crossing in 1 minute, 52.16 seconds. Freshman J.J. Williams followed close behind, recording a PR at 1:53.51.
In the sprints, Giovanni Wearing took second in the 60-meter hurdle in 7.76 seconds.
Jalen Williams recorded a PR in the 200 meters, placing 10th in 22.04 seconds.
Finally, the 4x400 relay team, highlighted by Jalen Williams, Sam Amusan, Abdullahi Hassan and Andrew Casey, finished third at 3:13.65.
In the day's final event, Justin Kiefel soared his way into the top 10, finishing sixthh in the triple jump with a mark of 47-10 ½ (14.59m).
Up Next: The Badgers travel to Dubuque, Iowa, and South Bend, Indiana, for the Solomon Butler Classic (Dubuque) and the Alex Wilson Invite, hosted by Notre Dame on Feb. 16 - 17. Events in Dubuque begin Friday, while the events at Notre Dame get underway Saturday at 10:00 a.m.
