DUBUQUE, Iowa — The Wisconsin women's track and field team kicked off their weekend competing in Dubuque, Iowa, on Friday afternoon at the Solomon W. Butler Classic. The Badgers collected three wins and seven personal best marks.
Leaders on the track
In the first track event of the afternoon, the Badgers swept the top five finishes in the mile. Sophomore Annika Cutforth picked up her first collegiate win, crossing with a personal best time of 4 minutes and 56.68 seconds. Annika Elliott and Myra Stray rounded out the top three, finishing in 5:02.34 and 5:03.03, respectively. Zaira Malloy-Salgado finished fourth with a time of 5:03.72, with Madelaine Sweeney finishing fifth with a personal best time of 5:09.33.
In the 800 meters, the Badgers went one-two, as Anna Schoesser won with a time of 2:18.47, and Katya Geyer finished second with a personal best time of 2:18.83.
The Badger women picked up their third win of the day as Erinn Hill was the first to cross in the 3000-meter race. Hill finished with a time of 10:01.63. Ashley Peterson also captured a top-five finish in the event, finishing third with a personal best time of 10:07.49.
Controlling the field
The Badger throwers started their meet off strong, sweeping the podium in the weight throw. Junior Taylor Kesner competed unattached and won, throwing 73 feet, 0 ½ inches (22.26m). Kesner was followed by Chloe Lindeman, throwing 73-0 (22.25m) ) for second place, and Olivia Roberts in third at 72-8 (22.15m). Chikere Oduocha and Abby Peeler rounded out the top five, throwing for 69-3 ¾ (21.15m) and 65-7 (19.99m) respectively. Oduochas's throw was a new personal best for the Hoffman Estates, Illinois native and moved her up to sixth on UW's All-Time list. Danni Langseth came in sixth for the Badgers with a distance of 64-8 ¾ (19.73m), while Asia Rave rounded out the top scorers with a throw of 63-11 ¾ (19.50m).
Freshman Zonica Lindeque competed unattached and claimed her second college win in the shot put, winning with a toss of 51-6 (15.70m). Langseth was back competing in the shot put, where she finished second in the event with a distance of 51-6 (15.70m).
Up Next
The Badgers will be back competing tomorrow at the Alex Wilson Invitational. The meet will feature four athletes competing in sprints, middle distance, and field events. Events are scheduled to begin at 11:30 a.m.
