Barnett and Hamiti win bouts for Badgers

IOWA CITY, Iowa — No. 22 Wisconsin wrestling completed the Big Ten dual match season at No. 3 Iowa, losing 34-7 at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.

The Badgers (9-6, 3-5 B1G) earned team points from wins by Eric Barnett and Dean Hamiti against the Hawkeyes (11-2, 6-2 B1G).

A two-time NCAA All-American, Barnett earned a 8-0 major decision over Iowa's Joey Cruz at 125 pounds to start the dual match. Barnett scored two takedowns and an escape, in addition to building riding time for the extra point. Barnett improves to 21-4 overall with 13 bonus-point victories. This is his seventh win by major decision this season.

Fellow two-time NCAA All-American Hamiti won a 14-11 decision over Iowa's Mike Caliendo at 165 pounds in a top-10 matchup. Fifth-ranked Hamiti scored three takedowns, two escapes and a reversal against seventh-ranked Caliendo. He fended off the Hawkeye's attacks and picked up riding time to earn his 23rd win of the season (23-1 overall) and remain undefeated against Big Ten competition with a 12-0 record in both duals and tournaments.

At 184, Wisconsin's Shane Liegel battled Gabe Arnold to a 8-6 narrow decision loss.

Wisconsin travels to Northern Iowa next Sunday, Feb. 25 at 1 p.m. to wrap the dual season. The match will be streamed live on FloWrestling.
