Five Things to Know: Wisconsin at Indiana

Badgers face the Hoosiers in Bloomington

MADISON, Wis. — The Wisconsin men's basketball team hits the road for its second-to-last road game of the regular season. The Badgers head to Bloomington for a conference clash with Indiana on Tuesday at 6 p.m. (CT) on Peacock.

1. LAST TIME OUT

The Badgers got back in the win column last Tuesday at home against Maryland with a 74-70 win. The team held off a late rally from Maryland to secure the win, making 11 of its final 12 free throws in the remaining 0:42 of the game.

Tyler Wahl finished with a team-high 18 points, plus six rebounds. Max Klesmit tallied 16 points, his most since scoring 26 against Indiana on Jan. 19. AJ Storr had 10 points and six rebounds, reaching double figures for the 22nd straight game. Chucky Hepburn finished with 11 points and four rebounds, playing 35 minutes without committing a turnover.

2. SERIES HISTORY

Tuesday will mark the 179th all-time meeting between Wisconsin and Indiana in a series that dates back to 1910. The Hoosiers lead the all-time series, 98-80. UW has won 24 of the last 28 games against Indiana, however. The series has flipped in Wisconsin's favor since the arrival or Bo Ryan and Greg Gard in 2001. As head coach, Gard has an 11-3 record against Indiana in his career. 

Since 2008, Wisconsin holds a 66.7 percent win percentage at Assembly Hall, which marks the best in the Big Ten during that span. Purdue is the only other conference team that has a winning record in Bloomington in the same time frame. The Badgers trail, 30-56, for games played in Bloomington during the all-time series.

3. SCOUTING THE OPPONENT

The Hoosiers enter Tuesday's game 6-10 in the Big Ten and 14-13 overall. The team is on a four-game losing streak, most recently suffering an 83-74 loss against Penn State on Saturday. However, when at home Indiana holds a 10-5 record this season.

Indiana ranks second to last in the Big Ten in both offense and defense. The team averages 72.8 points per game while allowing 74.9 points per game. Sophomore Malik Reneau has led the way for the Hoosiers, averaging a team best 16.1 points per game while grabbing 6.1 rebounds per game. Kel'el Ware is not far off, averaging 15.1 points and 9.4 rebounds per game.

4. MAKING IT COUNT

The Badgers have been one of the most effective teams in the Big Ten at the free throw line this season. This was on full display against Maryland, with the Badgers going 11-for-12 in the final minute to seal the win. The Badgers went 28-for-31 overall from the line (90.3%), UW's most made free throws in a game since Jan. 26, 2016.

Wisconsin ranks third in the Big Ten this season in free throw percentage, shooting 76.4% from the line. The Badgers trail only Iowa (77.8%) and Ohio State (76.6%).

5. ROAD WARRIORS

Conference wins on the road against Michigan State and Ohio State this season mark the latest in a number of B1G road wins under head coach Greg Gard. In nine seasons under Gard, the Badgers have gone 50-49 (.505) overall. Wisconsin has gone 44-40 (.524) on the road in Big Ten play during the Gard era, trailing only Purdue for the highest league road win percentage over that span.
