Badgers head back down to Georgia for 44th Schenkel Invitational
MADISON, Wis. – Wisconsin men's golf is headed back down south to Georgia to participate in the 44th Schenkel Invitational hosted by Georgia Southern and the Forest Heights Country Club. The Badgers will play a total of 54 holes from Friday, March 15, to Sunday, March 17.
Here are five things to know before the Badgers tee off:
1. Last Time Out: Wisconsin men's golf brought home their first tournament title of the season after an impressive showing at the Invitational at the Ford. The team finished 24-under par to lead the eight-team field at the Ford Field & River Club. Cameron Huss was the top finisher among the 54 golfers after a career-best showing. Huss finished 15-under par after carding a new career low 54-hole score of 201 (69-66-66). The senior now ranks second in program history as his 201 is just one stroke behind the program's leader, Ben Walter (1994), who shot a 200. Additionally, the Badgers recorded a program-best 18-hole team score of 274 (-14) in the third and final round of the invitational, helping lift them to a first place finish over Wake Forest.
2. The Course: The Forest Heights Country Club, which will be played at a par-72, 7,123-yard layout for the 44th Schenkel Invitational, originally opened in 1947 as a nine-hole course before adding nine more holes in the 1960s. The course features mini Verde Bermuda grass on its greens, and is home to the Annual Southeastern Amateur Golf Tournament.
3. The Tournament: Play on both Friday and Saturday will begin at 8 a.m. CT on holes one and 10, while tee times on Sunday will start at 7:30 a.m. CT. Eighty-four golfers from 14 different schools will compete at what is known as one of the most prestigious tournaments in collegiate golf.
4. The Field: The invitational will feature Army West Point, Campbell, Florida, Florida Gulf Coast, Georgia Southern, Kentucky, Middle Tennessee, Mississippi State, NC State, Notre Dame, South Carolina, UAB, West Virginia and Wisconsin. Representing the Badgers is Cameron Huss, Jacob Beckman, Coalter Smith, Blake Wisdom and Spencer Turtz. Daniel Aas will join Wisconsin as an individual competitor. Thanks to a win at the Invitational at the Ford, Huss is currently ranked 88th in the Clippd top 100.
