Game Notes

Wisconsin

MADISON, Wis. —  The Wisconsin women's basketball team (13-14, 6-11 B1G) is set to play the Michigan State Spartans (21-7, 11-6 B1G) in its final game of the season Sunday, March 3. Tipoff is set for 1 p.m. from the Kohl Center and the game can be streamed live on Big Ten Network or listened to on 1070 WTSO-AM.

Here are five things to know before the Badgers matchup against the Spartans:

1. CHASING B1G RECORDS: In Thursday's game at Maryland, Serah Williams recorded her 14th-straight double-double, notching 14 points and 10 rebounds. She is one double-double away from Megan Gustaffson's Big Ten record of 15 consecutive double-doubles set in the 2018-19 season.

2. ONE GAME REMAINS: With one game to go in the regular season, Wisconsin sits in 10th place in the Big Ten with a 6-11 conference record. Wisconsin's performance against Michigan State, as well as the results of Illinois', Minnesota's and Purdue's final games will determine where Wisconsin will finish in the Big Ten. A win against the Spartans would guarantee them a bye in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament, which begins March 6 in Minneapolis, Minn.

3. SENIOR NIGHT CELEBRATIONS: In its final game of the regular season, Wisconsin will honor its four seniors. Brooke Schramek, Natalie Leuzinger, Halle Douglass and Sacia Vanderpool will have soon completed four seasons with the Badgers and have added so much to the program. These veterans have helped the program improve immensely during their four years, notching records such as the largest comeback in program history (22 points) against Purdue, Feb, 13, 2022 as well as clinching a bye in the 2023 Big Ten Tournament for the first time since the 2010-11 season.

4. HISTORY WITH MICHIGAN STATE: Wisconsin and Michigan State will meet up for the 79th time in each program's history and for the 39th time in Madison. The Spartans lead the all-time series, 51-27, but the record in Badger territory is tied at 19-all. Last season, the two teams met up twice and split the series. In the first game played in East Lansing on Jan. 11, Wisconsin emerged victorious, winning 84-80. However, In the following game, the Spartans came back for revenge, defeating the Badgers, 88-63, in Madison. In this game, Julie Pospisilova paced the Badgers with 22 points and added six assists. Serah Williams chipped in 18 rebounds, five rebounds and two blocks.

5. SCOUTING THE SPARTANS: The Michigan State Spartans are 21-7 overall and 11-6 in the Big Ten, putting them at fourth in the conference. The team is led in scoring by Julia Ayrault, who averages 15.0 and 7.2 rebounds per game. The graduate student is 11th in the conference in average points per game and eighth in average rebounds. Michigan State averages 84.7 points per game, which ranks sixth in the NCAA this season.
